The surprise is A program that allows creators to earn money from short video clips. The company announced a new monetization program that will allow the app’s influencers to make money from Spotlight videos that are one minute or longer by earning a share of their content’s ad revenue.
The change will simplify Snap’s monetization features via in-app Spotlight and Stories, where Snap first launched its app feature. It also means company Its Spotlight Rewards program, a creator fund-like arrangement that pays creators directly. This program will be discontinued on January 30, 2025, and the new monetization arrangement will take effect on February 1.
Snap announced the update as TikTok approaches a total ban in the US. The ByteDance-owned service currently faces a sell-or-be-ban deadline of January 19, 2025. Doesn’t interfere. In its announcement, Snap noted that Spotlight viewership was “up 25% year-over-year” and that “there is a unique and growing opportunity for creators to monetize this format in the same way they do with Stories.”
Under the new “unified” program, creators are eligible to earn money from Spotlight videos or stories if they meet the following requirements:
-You must have at least 50,000 followers.
-Post at least 25 times a month to saved stories or Spotlight.
-Post in either Featured Stories or General Stories in at least 10 of the last 28 days.
– Achievement of one of the following in the last 28 days:
-1 million views in the spotlight
-12,000 hours of viewing time
Some of these metrics are slightly higher than Snap’s previous metrics for Stories, which set the bar at just 10 story posts per month. But, as TechCrunch NotesThe new threshold is much higher for Spotlight creators, who previously could earn money from the company’s Creator Fund with just 1,000 followers and 10,000 unique views. The change also prompts creators to create longer content for Spotlight as they can no longer be paid for videos that are less than a minute long.
If TikTok ends up getting banned, Snap will be one of many platforms trying to lure creators to its product. Although the app is primarily known for its private messaging features, the company says the number of people posting publicly has “tripled” in the past year, and that the total rewards available to creators will be “developed and expanded.” Go ahead.
